This article describes the farewell procedures for the expedition of Major Johannes and its departure on 16 October 1905 from Dar es Salaam. The task of the expedition was to reach Songea in the southwest. The text reveals the composition and strength of the participating military forces and explains in great detail the routes they took and the military strategies they employed, including the names and ranks of all European participants in the campaign.
The article provides the complete program of the farewell ceremony, including the Governor's speech both in the original Swahili version and in translation. The author also comments on the quality of the troops.
III. Further Remarks
The course of the expedition of Major Johannes was published one year later (October 1906) in a series in the Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Zeitung and as two articles in the magazine Deutsches Kolonialblatt, which was published in Germany.
