II. Content
This article attempts to answer accusation made in the German press that the Deutsche Schutztruppe had fought against troops who were militarily inferior, and that the Germans had destroyed and depopulated the country. The article quotes from a statement made by a soldier of the 3. Lindi Kompagnie, who argues that the Africans were in some respect militarily superior to the Schutztruppe, that there were also huge losses on the German side, and that destruction and famine were necessary to "pacify" the colony.
III. Further Remarks
The accusation was published in the Frankfurter Zeitung (March 1907). The response to it appeared in the Deutsche Zeitung. The DOAZ article quotes passages from the latter.
